 During Week 4, the project moved from early planning and concept definition into a more structured design and implementation stage. The main focus this week was to refine the core idea of VehicleGrid and make sure the app features were aligned with real EV user needs. The project scope was reviewed again to confirm that the application would not only help users locate charging stations, but also support route planning, charger visibility, and trip-related decision making.

A major task completed this week was the further development of the application structure. The key modules of the system were identified more clearly, including user authentication, charger browsing, route planning, trip management, and preferences. This helped create a stronger understanding of how the pages and features should connect together. The user flow of the application was also considered more carefully so that the app could feel practical and easy to use for drivers.

This week also included work on interface planning. Initial screens and layout ideas were reviewed with the aim of giving the application a cleaner and more professional appearance. Attention was given to how users would move between key pages such as Home, Charger Map, Trip Planner, and Profile. Some changes were discussed to improve user experience and reduce confusion in navigation.

On the technical side, more thought was given to the data that would be needed in the backend. Important entities such as chargers, trips, vehicles, users, and saved preferences were identified as essential parts of the data model. This helped prepare for future implementation using Firebase and related services. The team also considered how seeded or structured data could be used during development before the application becomes fully production-ready.

Overall, Week 4 was productive because it helped bridge the gap between idea and implementation. The project became more organised, the feature direction became clearer, and the foundation was strengthened for actual development work in the coming weeks.

Challenges

One challenge this week was balancing feature ambition with realistic development scope. There were many useful ideas for the app, but it was necessary to focus on the features that directly support the main purpose of VehicleGrid. Another challenge was deciding how much complexity to include in route and charging logic at this stage.

Plan for Next Week

Next week will focus on building and refining more of the app screens, improving data structure planning, and moving further into functional implementation of charger and trip-related features.

Tausif Rahman This week I presented the  Audit App  concept with its two parts:  Order Audit (OrderAuditPro)  and  Walkthrough Auditor . I later uploaded documentation and demonstration files of an Android version of the Order Audit module, which helped the team understand the concept more clearly. In addition, I encouraged the team to think about their  past subject projects  by asking what they had worked on in Android, iOS, cross-platform, and project management courses, to see if those experiences could be adapted into our current project. Alongside that, I shared several of my own past coursework projects, such as  ScholarSwap  (resource and book exchange platform),  SurvivAway  (a budgeting and life-flow helper), and  FocusFlow  (a study planner with ADHD-focused features). Week 5 Blog: Individual Contributions

  participated in the voting process and initially leaned toward the Audit App, but after deeper discussions, I found the Customer Service Checker and Vehicle Manager ideas more scalable and innovative. I located an academic paper titled E-Charge, which described an EV-charging-station planning system using open data and efficiency modelling. I shared the paper with the group and led a discussion on how its methods could guide our approach—particularly its use of driver-collected data, efficiency mapping, and route-planning optimisation. I also helped analyse how to simplify our version for Trimester 1, keeping it practical while leaving room for AI integration later. Additionally, I began finding and reviewing more EV-planning research papers to contribute to our shared knowledge base.
